My pontifications on poetry, poets, and poetic philosophy would take
up too much space, but I am including on this website a small chapbook of my poetry titled The Old and the New,
which is composed of thirty-six poems of varying subject matter. I’ve been writing poetry almost as long as I’ve
been writing fiction, and my work is based generally on classical models, though you will see, as with the surreal work, that
I will also vary my approach for the sake of effect. I’ve compiled a collection of philosophical poems about art, history
and philosophy titled Metaphysics, which I intend to publish privately in the near future, as well as a group
of traditional sonnets inspired by the those of William Shakespeare. This last group of 155 poems was inspired by my
visit to England, and to the Church of the Holy Trinity where Shakespeare’s remains are interred. They await
a final and time-consuming revision. I have also composed a small collection of prose poems which I hope to include here in
the future. In the last year I have composed another body of poems which is now in the process of being submitted to
various competitions.
I
am including a special poem that I composed before the birth of Meghan Stubbs, daughter of Ken and Julie, called A Psalm
for Meghan. It was written as a way of conveying in poetry what I might say for every child yet to be born,
and for every mother and father of a child who might use these words to convey what they feel in their souls.
